Services of The Historical Society

The Broadway Theater: The Broadway Theater at 317 West Broadway showed the first talking motion pictures in Council Bluffs in 1929.  It closed in the 1960's and the building was later demolished.Liberty Theater: The Liberty Theater at 547 West Broadway achieved widespread notoriety during the 1970's after it became the Crest Adult Art Theater.  The theater and surrounding buildings were demolished in the early 1980's.The Strand Theater: In 1927 the Dohany Opera House at 554 West Broadway was remodeled into the Strand Theater.  In addition to movies, the Strand was also home to the broadcasting studios of radio station KSWI in the late 1940's.  The Strand was destroyed by fire in December 1974.

RailsWest Railroad Museum at the Rock Island Depot

The building was formerly the Chicago Rock Island and Pacific Passenger Depot for Council Bluffs.  Includes the Greater Omaha Society of Model Engineers (GOSOME) HO Scale display and the Historic Railcar exhibit.  Includes hours of operation and admission fees.
