Volunteer!

Are you a railroad or model train enthusiast?  History buff?  Service organization member?  Or just love volunteering to assist your community?

The Historical Society of Pottawattamie County need assistance in both of its primary facilities -- the RailsWest Railroad Museum and the Squirrel Cage Jail.  We can always use some additional volunteers and your help would be appreciated!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

RailsWest Railroad Museum
The 1899 restored Rock Island Depot offers an outdoor railcar display, the HO model display, and many museum artifacts, photos, and railroad memorabilia.
Depot Tour Guide, 3 and 6 hour shifts available Wed-Sun

Squirrel Cage Jail
If you have an interest in history, law enforcement, or a desire to meet people from all over the U.S., please consider volunteering at the Jail.

Volunteers may "adopt" a day or large groups often will volunteer a regular day/shift or choose a month to fill in.

Volunteers serve on our boards and committees. Volunteers help build and strengthen the Society.

Meet people visiting the Jail or Depot from all over the country, teach visitors about Pottawattamie County history, and become an important part of the Society by volunteering. Volunteer benefits include: meeting new people; invitations to volunteer activities and appreciation events; opportunity to attend training on new exhibits; and a volunteer nametag.
